Welcome to diving Chuuk State’s TRUK LAGOON, Fed States of Micronesia ! This giant oceanic lake with high islands and 180 miles of encircling barrier reef served as a naturally protected base for Japan’s conquest of the entire western Pacific, leading to fierce battles by Allied forces to end the military dominance. huge Allied attack coded ‘Operation Hailstone’ in February 1944, and two subsequent attacks in April and June left Truk’s lagoon floor and isles vastly littered with destroyed aircraft, and cargoes aboard sunken military ships.
